Position Overview

Position Summary:Under limited supervision, perform a variety of tasks to maintain campus masonry and grounds-related work as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine duties such as watering, raking, weeding, snow removal, litter pick-up and disposal, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and trim ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, lawns, and flowers
- Perform manual labor in major landscaping additions to new building projects or renewal of existing landscaping areas
- Operate various equipment and vehicles associated with grounds work: i.e., tractor equipped with front-end loader, mower, sweeper, shredder, chipper, sod cutter, thatcher, and light vehicles to transport material and equipment
- Assist with sprinkler installation and repair, prepare and line athletic fields
- Trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls using clippers and edging tools
- Maintain electronic records of work orders performed
- Regular and predictable attendance required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements: - High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- A valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment is also required, as well as the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and road conditions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to operate hand and power tools associated with this position
- Knowledge of proper methods of planting, cultivating, and caring for hedges, trees, shrubs, lawns, and flowers
- Ability to drive light equipment is associated with this position
Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: - Work is performed outside in all types of weather
- Work requires exposure to conditions that are wet and exposure to noise and vibration, fumes, dust, odors, and/or toxic situations that may be hazardous
- Work may involve exposure to health hazards through the use of agricultural chemicals
- Must be willing to work before and/or after normal hours and weekends if necessary
- May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens
- Work is heavy in nature that at times requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Kneeling, sitting, bending, standing, and working in all positions for periods of time

Paid Time OffDuring the first year of service, full time non-exempt (hourly) employees accrue 7 hours of annual leave and 7 hours of medical leave per month. During the second year of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of medical leave per month. During the third and subsequent years of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month.
Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.
Employee Educational Assistance Plan Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for three courses (up to nine credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses or children may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
